Suffolk, one of the most innovative and successful builders in the country, has unveiled 100MAG, a new facility at its headquarters campus that will serve as the center of the company’s innovation ecosystem and the capstone of its long-term investment in data, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, quantum and other emerging technologies.
The construction industry is fragmented and faces significant challenges including rising costs, labor shortages, productivity pressures, increasingly complex projects and accelerated schedules. Suffolk has responded by offering clients services that add value across the entire building lifecycle and investing heavily in data and technology. 100MAG brings those strategies together in one place, connecting how Suffolk plans, designs, sources and builds with how the company identifies, tests, refines and scales new solutions.
“Construction is at a crossroads,” said John Fish, Chairman and CEO of Suffolk. “Today, the cost to build a building is higher than the value of a finished building. As an industry, we must become more efficient and productive. 100MAG is the nerve center and heart of Suffolk’s innovation ecosystem, and where our responses to industry challenges come together under one roof.”
100MAG brings together teams and capabilities that span the entire building lifecycle, connecting project planning, design, materials sourcing, self-perform construction, building management, and technology investments and partnerships. Inspired by the master builder model, this integrated approach consolidates more responsibility under a single organization, drives continuous improvement and creates a shared focus on project success. It also allows technologies, clean data and best practices to flow across service lines, enabling teams to collaborate more effectively, reduce fragmentation and create more efficient building processes.
100MAG is also the research and development (R&D) center of Suffolk’s innovation ecosystem, creating a clear path for promising ideas to move from an individual project or technology investment to broader use across the company.
Solutions may originate through Suffolk’s Jobsite of the Future, where AI engineers work on-site with project teams to address challenges in design, schedule and process, or through Suffolk Technologies’ venture capital fund and BOOST accelerator program. The most promising solutions move to 100MAG to be tested, refined and assessed for their potential to improve cost, schedule, safety, quality and decision-making.
Validated solutions are standardized and deployed company-wide, putting them in the hands of project teams and generating new insights for continuous improvement. The path from a field-driven idea or external technology through 100MAG to enterprise deployment turns ideas into repeatable solutions with broader value.
100MAG is the foundation for creating a more cohesive building model and for ensuring that a breakthrough on one project can become shared knowledge across Suffolk, ultimately redefining how America builds.
“The future of construction is not somewhere far away,” Fish added. “We have the people, the ideas and the tools to begin building it now. And Suffolk is proud to begin that work at 100MAG.”
