Prime Minister sets the stage for India’s Semiconductor Mission, positioning the nation as a trusted global hub for chip design, manufacturing, and innovation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi  laid out a bold vision for India’s emergence as a global semiconductor hub, inaugurating the SEMICON India 2025 summit. Addressing a packed audience of industry leaders, global chipmakers, and policymakers, the Prime Minister emphasised that the country’s semiconductor mission is no longer an aspiration but a defining pillar of India’s industrial transformation.

He highlighted that semiconductors are the “new oil” of the digital age, powering everything from smartphones to satellites, and underlined India’s determination to build a resilient, self-reliant ecosystem across design, fabrication, packaging, and advanced R&D.

“India does not want to be a follower in this race; we want to lead with innovation, trusted supply chains, and partnerships that shape the future of technology,” the Prime Minister said, drawing applause from delegates.

The Prime Minister’s remarks served as a rallying call for both domestic firms and international giants to invest, collaborate, and co-create within India’s rapidly evolving semiconductor landscape. He assured the global community of strong policy support, financial incentives, and a skilled talent pool, positioning India as a credible alternative in the complex geopolitics of chip supply chains.

Key Highlights of the Address:

  • India Semiconductor Mission reaffirmed as a national priority with focus on manufacturing, design, and sustainability.

  • Commitment to align with global leaders in AI, quantum computing, 5G/6G, automotive electronics, and green energy technologies.

  • Strong call for public-private partnerships, underscoring that government is a facilitator, not a competitor.

  • Emphasis on Asia-wide collaboration, signalling India’s readiness to work with like-minded partners for supply chain security.

The speech set an ambitious tone for the summit, which is expected to witness multiple MoUs, investment announcements, and technology showcases over the coming days.

With this stage-setting address, India is clearly signalling that its semiconductor story is not just about chips—it is about national security, economic sovereignty, and global competitiveness.
