Dr. Anshuman Singh, Cofounder and Chief Academic Officer, explains how Saras AI Institute is breaking down barriers with a no-prerequisite, hands-on AI course designed for first-year students.

In an exclusive interview with Robotics Business News, Dr. Anshuman Singh, Cofounder and Chief Academic Officer of Saras AI Institute, sheds light on the vision behind their groundbreaking course, Powers of AI. Designed to make artificial intelligence education more inclusive and accessible, the course eliminates traditional entry barriers like coding and advanced math, offering first-semester students a hands-on, industry-relevant learning experience. Dr. Singh discusses how this innovative approach aligns with the institute’s broader mission to democratize AI education and equip students with real-world skills from day one.

What inspired Saras AI Institute to create the "Powers of AI" course, and how does it align with the institute's broader educational mission?

Typical introductory AI courses are offered later (sophomore/junior year) in an undergraduate program and require coding, math, and algorithms as prerequisites. Powers of AI seeks to provide students with an early and accessible foundation in artificial intelligence, enabling them to successfully navigate the vast field of AI. By offering this prerequisite-free course in the very first semester, Saras AI Institute offers a path to learn AI for anyone interested in the field.

How does the course structure—especially the refund policy and no-prerequisite model—help democratize access to AI education?

We have a four-week full refund policy to experience the course. This means students can ask for a full refund for as long as the first half of the course. This policy is the most generous refund policy students can find anywhere. It also reflects our confidence in the quality of the course and the rich learning experience it provides.

What distinguishes the “Powers of AI” course from other introductory AI courses currently available online?

Can you elaborate on how the course prepares students for real-world AI roles, especially without requiring prior coding or math skills?

Students do assignments and projects that are hands-on. The course project provides an opportunity for students to build real-world AI models. We scaffold the learning journey for students from simpler models to more realistic AI models.

How will the credits from this course apply to the associate degree program, and what kind of flexibility does that offer students?

Students who pass this course with a grade of B or better can apply three credit hours to the requirements of an associate or bachelor’s degree program in AI. Students will have the option to choose between a two-year or a four-year degree program at the same institution.

What kind of support systems (mentorship, coaching, networking) are in place for students during and after the course?

Every student is assigned a success coach who will guide them in their career journey and help them make decisions to achieve their career goals.

With the rapid advancement of AI technologies, how does the institute plan to keep the curriculum up-to-date and industry-relevant?

Our courses are designed by industry experts and are reviewed and updated after each semester based on student feedback and the latest industry trends.
