As labor shortages and rising delivery demands stretch global logistics networks, Ambi Robotics is stepping in with cutting-edge automation built to scale. In this exclusive interview with Robotics Business News, Jim Liefer, CEO of Ambi Robotics, reveals what’s driving the unprecedented demand for AmbiStack—its AI-powered multipick capability, data security focus, and customer-informed design. He also offers a glimpse into how Ambi Robotics plans to meet rising demand and keep innovating through its proprietary AmbiOS platform.
What key factors do you believe have driven the rapid sell-out of AmbiStack inventory for 2025?
AmbiStack is in high demand because it solves one of the most fundamental challenges in logistics today: the labor-intensive task of loading and unloading trucks. As ecommerce accelerates, the aging warehouse workforce is under pressure from tighter delivery windows and unpredictable order volumes, contributing to widespread labor shortages across physically demanding tasks. AmbiStack addresses this directly with AI-powered automation designed to work alongside people, easing the burden of repetitive, high-strain tasks. AmbiStack arrives pre-trained and ready to work from day one, delivering immediate productivity gains and helping teams handle more volume, safely and more efficiently.
How did customer feedback shape the design and capabilities of AmbiStack?
Ambi Robotics works with some of the nation’s largest parcel carriers, retailers and logistics companies, many of whom already rely on our proven AmbiSort solution to sort parcels across commercial warehouse operations. Based on their feedback and success with AmbiSort technology, we identified a need for a flexible, scalable, high-throughput, intelligent stacking solution. This feedback directly shaped the development of AmbiStack, the core architecture of which was refined from years of perfecting gantry technology, to handle stacking tasks with the speed, accuracy, flexibility, and number of outputs those customers were asking for.
Can you explain how Sim2Real reinforcement learning enhances AmbiStack’s performance compared to traditional robotic stacking solutions?
Sim2Real reinforcement learning gives AmbiStack a major advantage by enabling it to train in a highly realistic, simulated environment before ever touching the warehouse floor. This leads to the technology being able to handle complex, unpredictable stacking scenarios from day one in deployment, unlike traditional robots that require time-consuming onsite training. Specifically, AmbiStack can receive a random sequence of mixed-size boxes without prior knowledge and dynamically plan how to stack them to achieve high space utilization. Over time, AmbiStack continues to learn and improve from real-world data, making it more adaptable and precise every day.
With demand outpacing supply, how is Ambi Robotics planning to scale manufacturing and delivery in the coming years?
With AmbiStack sold out for 2025 and a growing waitlist of customers into 2026, we are actively scaling manufacturing capacity to support significant growth and strategic deployments.
How important is SOC 2 Type II compliance for your enterprise customers, and what does it signify about your company’s commitment to data security?
SOC 2 Type II compliance is extremely important for our enterprise customers. It provides third-party validation with rigorous protocols for data security, access and privacy. Achieving our yearly audit with zero exceptions reinforces trust and ensures that our systems meet the high security standards expected by Fortune 500 organizations, especially as new cyber threats emerge.
AmbiStack’s multipick capability is a game-changer for efficiency. How does this translate into measurable productivity gains for your clients?
AmbiStack is the first stacking robot that can pick up multiple items at once without advance sequencing or structuring. It uses advanced AI vision systems powered by foundation models to accurately localize items on the conveyor, with motion planning systems to determine how to pick the first item with space for the second. This means that more items can be stacked in an hour with the same hardware, improving the ROI and capacity of operations like pallet building and container loading, and shrinking delivery times.
How does continuous learning from real-world data post-deployment help AmbiStack improve over time?
Continuous learning from real-world data allows AmbiStack to refine its performance in live environments, adapting to variations in package types, stacking patterns and facility layouts. This ongoing feedback loop improves accuracy and reliability over time, ensuring the system becomes smarter and more optimized the longer it runs.
Looking ahead, what innovations or expansions can customers expect from Ambi Robotics to stay at the forefront of warehouse automation?
Looking ahead, customers can expect continued innovation through AmbiOS, our proprietary operating system that powers all Ambi Robotics solutions. AmbiOS is what enables the seamless integration, real-time performance monitoring and secure remote support across deployments. As it evolves, AmbiOS will incorporate more advanced AI robot skills and features that allow our products to stay adaptive to customer needs and competitive in the market.
